AAC Awareness Month
October is AAC Awareness Month, and this year we’re focusing on what our new tagline, ‘Every Voice Heard,’ really means to us.
At ATtherapy, this isn’t simply a message for one month of the year. It is something that sits at the heart of how we work with our clients, their families, the professionals we collaborate with, and within our own team.

Our ‘Every Voice Heard’ statement:
Our ATtherapy team supports all our clients to be able to express themselves in any / all ways. All communication, in whatever modality, meaning or content should be listened to and truly heard. Our clients’ voices and opinions matter.
They should have agency and control over their own lives and decisions, whatever this means to them.
We also work collaboratively with families and the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), so their voices and considerations are heard in setting therapy targets and ways of working.
Our team matters too. Our ATtherapy team members voices are heard in our company ethos, development and we value each and every member.
Throughout AAC Awareness Month, we’ll be exploring what ‘Every Voice Heard’ means in practice.
We’ll be sharing reflections across our social media channels from our team and professionals we work alongside.
AAC awareness is not just about the technology or communication systems someone uses. It is about the person behind the communication, their thoughts, choices, preferences, opinions and their right to be heard.

Each week, our Education and Therapy Assistant and Makaton Tutor, Sally Featon, will be sharing a Makaton sign to help build confidence and support communication. Take a look at this week’s sign and join us in learning together!
