LEGO®-based therapy is a social development programme for young people with Autism or related social communication difficulties.
Delivered by Niki Dutton; accredited Bricks for Autism Trainer and experienced in delivering LEGO® based therapy for over 7 years, Bricks for Autism courses are the only official LEGO®- based therapy training courses delivered within the UK. Currently undertaking a PhD in the use of LEGO®-based therapy with children who use Augmentative and Alternative communication (AAC), Niki will also discuss differentiations of the programme for the development of effective communication with young people who communicate using methods other than speech.
The course will cover the background and principles of LEGO®-based therapy, setting up groups, collaborative set and freestyle building, assessment, evaluation and recording, and evidence-based practice to support the intervention.
This one-day introductory course is suitable for teachers, teaching assistants, speech therapists, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, play therapists, counsellors, education specialists or other professionals working with young people with social communication challenges.
Participants will receive a certificate of attendance; endorsed by Cambridge University’s Autism Research Centre, and resources to support setting up groups in their own settings or services.
