Schools now have more freedom and choice over which services they contract for Speech and Language therapy provision.
Schools can contract a Speech and Language therapist from ATtherapy and benefit from a consistent, reliable therapist who has completed all recruitment checks. An enhanced DBS, and professional indemnity insurance will be in place alongside a robust system of CPD for all therapists in the ATtherapy team.
We currently support a range of mainstream and specialist schools, primary, secondary and further education levels. Therapy will be customised to support the needs of each individual school.
Costs are inclusive and schools are not expected to cover any sick leave, maternity pay or holiday entitlement.
Input can be bespoke and will always include full assessments, reports, intervention, training and embedding practice within the classroom. Regular joined up multi-disciplinary working is always promoted.
Facts, statistics and impact
In the UK, over 1 million children and young people – that’s 2 – 3 in every UK classroom – have some form of long term and persistent speech, language and communication difficulty.
In areas of poverty, over 50% of children are starting school with delayed communication skills. Their speech may be unclear, vocabulary is smaller, sentences are shorter and they are able to understand only simple instructions. Many of these children can catch up with the right support.
50-90% of children with persistent speech, language and communication difficulties go on to have reading difficulties.
Two thirds of 7 -14-year olds with serious behaviour problems have language impairment.
Children with speech, language and communication difficulties represent the most prevalent type of special education need amongst primary school pupils with statements of special educational need.
